RetroSync support
RetroSync is a retro-game library and player for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV. It plays compatible cartridge images that you import yourself: NES (.nes), Game Boy (.gb), Game Boy Color (.gbc), and Game Boy Advance (.gba). RetroSync includes no games and no way to obtain any; only import files you are legally entitled to use.
Requirements
- iOS/iPadOS 17, macOS 14, or tvOS 17.
Importing
- iPhone and iPad: use the Import action in the library, or open a file from the Files app with RetroSync.
- Mac: drag a file onto the library window, or use Open With in Finder.
- Apple TV: playback-only. Import on another device signed into the same Apple Account and the game syncs to Apple TV automatically.
- Archives (zip and similar) and duplicate imports are rejected. NES import accepts legacy iNES images (mappers 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 66).
Controls
- iPhone and iPad: on-screen controls and connected game controllers.
- Mac: keyboard and connected game controllers.
- Apple TV: the Siri Remote browses your library; playing a game requires a compatible connected game controller.
Sync
- RetroSync syncs your imported games and saves through the private iCloud database of your signed-in Apple Account. There is no RetroSync account.
- If iCloud is off or unavailable, importing and local play keep working; sync resumes when iCloud is available again.
Open source
- RetroSync's own code is licensed GPL-2.0-or-later. License texts are in the app under Open-source notices. Corresponding source for each public release is published at https://retrosync.net/source/.
